Communication & Information

The Communication & Information sector has been active in its current form since 1990. In all programs of the CI sector, the starting point is: free movement of ideas in words and images. The activities carried out by the CI sector, as in other sectors, concern a number of themes: access to information (multimedia centers in small communities), capacity building and skills creation (media training on the effect of the media on the society), freedom of expression and press as well as the development of media in developing countries (training female journalists).

For the 2006-2008 biennium, the main priority for the CI sector is to give people more power over their own knowledge development by promoting access to information and knowledge, with an emphasis on freedom of expression. Other priorities are: communication development and progress in the use of ICT to promote the quality of education, science and culture. More information about the activities in the CI sector can be found on the UNESCO website .
