Amsterdam World Book Capital 2008

On June 8, 2006, Amsterdam was elected World Book Capital 2008. The World Book Capital is an initiative of UNESCO in collaboration with the International Publishers Association (IPA), the International Booksellers Federation (IBF) and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Since 2001, a jury, consisting of representatives of these organizations, has selected a world book capital dedicated to promoting books and reading for a year. The year begins on April 23, 2008 (World Book Day).
